Aromasin® - The brand name drug for the generic drug exemestane. An aromatase inactivator, Aromasin® binds to aromatase, changing the protein so that it can no longer make estrogen. Aromasin® is used as an adjuvant therapy for early breast cancer in post-menopausal women, and in treating post-menopausal women with hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer, who have already taken tamoxifen for two to three years. Aromasin® works by suppressing the natural production of estrogens (estrone and estradiol) in a woman's body, which estrogen receptor-positive breast cancers need in order to grow.
