Advanced Cancer - Cancer is generally classified as advanced when it has aggressively spread to other places in the body beyond the primary site where it first started. Advanced cancer normally develops in patients who have either already had cancer for a certain amount of time, or whose treatment is no longer effective at preventing the growth of the cancer. Thus, advanced cancer poses a more significant treatment challenge. Metastatic cancer can become advanced if it has spread to many places, is affecting vital organs, or can't be removed.
