TomoTherapy® for Gallbladder Cancer
TomoTherapy® combines the power of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) with the accuracy of CT scanning and other advanced technologies for radiation therapy planning and delivery. TomoTherapy® may be a recommended gallbladder cancer treatment particularly if you have already reached your maximum tolerance dose of traditional radiation, or if your gallbladder tumor is especially difficult to reach.
TomoTherapy® allows your Radiation Therapy Team at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) to:
- Hit hard-to-reach tumors by sculpting small and precise, yet extremely powerful beams of radiation
- Use built-in CT scanning to improve targeting by confirming the shape and position of the tumor seconds before your treatment begins
- Reduce radiation exposure to healthy tissues that surround the gallbladder tumor
Traditional radiation therapies only project radiation on a gallbladder tumor from a few directions. However, with TomoTherapy® we can deliver precise, powerful doses of radiation therapy from a full 360 degrees.
An on-board CT scanner helps your CTCA care team determine if your tumor has shifted or changed shape since your last gallbladder cancer treatment. This information allows your radiation oncologist to plan your treatment to avoid damage to healthy tissues that surround the gallbladder treatment area.
TomoTherapy® may open new doors for gallbladder cancer patients who have already reached their maximum tolerance dose of traditional radiation, or those who have hard-to-reach tumors in sensitive areas.
