Extreme Drug Resistance for Gallbladder Cancer

When deciding to integrate chemotherapy in a gallbladder treatment plan, it's important to first confirm that the cancerous cells in your body will be responsive to the anticancer drugs used. The Extreme Drug Resistance (EDR) Assay (or chemoresistance) is one way that oncologists at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) test to ensure that your body is not resistant to specific chemotherapeutic drugs.

The EDR assay helps us determine if gallbladder cancer cells grow in the presence of extreme exposure to a particular chemo drug. If the cancerous cells do grow, it's safe to assume that your tumor itself will be resistant to the drug.

When armed with this information, CTCA oncologists can avoid unnecessary toxicity, consider other gallbladder cancer treatment protocols and minimize costs.
