TomoTherapy® is a new radiation therapy option available to esophageal cancer patients at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA).

The TomoTherapy® Highly Integrated Adaptive Radiotherapy (HI-ART) System® is unique because it combines several, innovative technologies into a single machine—CT scanning technology, advanced Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) delivery and advanced tools for planning the delivery of your radiation treatment for esophageal cancer.

With TomoTherapy® HI-ART, the Radiation Therapy Team at CTCA can:

  • Sculpt small, powerful and precise radiation beams to hit hard-to-reach esophageal tumors
  • Target tumors using built-in CT scanning to confirm the shape and position of the tumor, seconds before your esophageal cancer treatment begins
  • Reduce radiation exposure to healthy surrounding tissue, often dramatically

While traditional radiation therapies project radiation on an esophageal cancer tumor from only a few directions, TomoTherapy® HI-ART delivers precise and powerful radiation doses from a full 360 degrees.

An on-board CT scanner helps skilled radiation therapists at CTCA determine if your tumor has shifted or changed shape since your last esophageal cancer treatment. This information then allows them to make technical adjustments to the system, aligning your programmed radiation treatment to the precise position you are in. This way we avoid damaging nearby tissue that is healthy.

If you are a current esophageal cancer patient who has reached your maximum, tolerated dose of traditional radiation, or if your tumor is in a hard-to-reach area, TomoTherapy® may be a new possibility for you. To learn if TomoTherapy® is a viable esophageal cancer treatment option for you, call 1-800-615-3055 or click to chat with one of our Oncology Information Specialists today to schedule a consultation.
