What is Endometrial Cancer?
Endometrial cancer is cancer that starts in the tissues of the endometrium (the inner lining of the uterus). The uterus is the small, hollow, muscular organ in a woman's pelvis (where a baby grows). Most endometrial cancers are adenocarcinomas (cancers that begin in cells that make and release mucus and other fluids). Endometrial cancer is different from cancer that forms in the muscles of the uterus, which is called uterine sarcoma.
Signs and Symptoms
In many cases, the symptoms of endometrial cancer can be discovered early. Irregular vaginal bleeding is the most common symptom of endometrial cancer. Other typical symptoms of endometrial cancer include abdominal pain and weight loss.
If you experience any of the above endometrial cancer symptoms, it is imperative that you visit your physician. Although these symptoms could be caused by a number of other conditions, only a physician can accurately diagnose if these symptoms are the result of endometrial cancer.
