CTCA Culture
The Culture of CTCA
Our culture is defined by our Founder and Chairman Richard J Stephenson and his unrelenting determination to win the fight against cancer. Everyone we hire exhibits this same fighting spirit, and is utterly devoted to helping our patients heal and experience a better quality of life.
Equally important to us is that our doctors possess an exceptional bedside manner. In fact, we only hire employees—everyone from clinicians to housekeeping staff—who are absolutely committed to our gold standard: the Mother Standard® of care. This means we expect you to treat your patients in the same manner you would treat your mother.
The origins of our Mother Standard® treatment philosophy go back more than 25 years. It was at that time when Mr. Stephenson suffered the loss of his beloved mother, Mary Brown Stephenson, to cancer. Disappointed by the impersonal and insensitive care his mother received, Mr. Stephenson vowed to change the face of cancer care.
Mr. Stephenson selected a group of outstanding oncologists and practitioners and challenged them to find a way to provide whole-person cancer treatment in a compassionate, nurturing environment. He founded Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) and established the first CTCA hospital: CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, Illinois. He ensured that CTCA staff members focus on one thing—making a difference in the lives of people living with cancer.
Since then, each and every one of us at CTCA has been committed to revolutionizing cancer care and delivering the Mother Standard® of care every day.
Patient focused, always
Above all, at CTCA, we promise to be attentive to our patients, responsive to their needs and to never lose sight of their mission—to heal.
We treat the whole person—integrating conventional medicine with supportive therapies (e.g., nutrition, naturopathy, mind-body medicine, oncology rehabilitation, spiritual support) to care for our patients completely—mind, body and spirit.
We listen to our patients and respect their wants and needs, preferences and treatment goals. Furthermore, we constantly encourage and empower them to participate in decisions about their treatment.
Hope
CTCA was built on the principal that there is always hope. It’s a driving force in our organization. For as long as our patients are willing to fight, we must be there behind them—offering unwavering support and limitless compassion.
Compassion
We care for our patients as if they were members of our own families. Every day our physicians, practitioners and entire staff demonstrate their kindness and compassion for our patients and each other. Whether it’s a comforting gesture such as a hug or smile, words of encouragement or praise, or simply taking the time to stop and listen, not a moment goes by when we aren’t showing how much we care.
Unconditional support
Not only do we rally our support around our patients, but we also cheer on each other.
We welcome your ideas and valuable insight, and we encourage you to explore and develop viable, new treatment protocols. Moreover, we arm you with the most cutting-edge technology and tools.
Additionally, we offer you opportunities to enhance your skills and advance your career.
