Post-Graduate Management Fellowship

Roger C. CaryThe Post-Graduate Fellowship at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) was founded by Mr. Roger C. Cary, who is the Chief Operating Officer of CTCA and the former President and CEO of Midwestern Regional Medical Center. For more than 10 years Mr. Cary continues to lead the organization towards delivering a higher standard – the Mother Standard® of care. More than a gold standard, the Mother Standard® reflects the way members of our care team would want their own mothers, fathers, brothers or sisters to be treated if they had cancer. With the primary focus of patient care, Mr. Cary was able to achieve record-breaking growth thus leading to acquisition and construction of CTCA's newest hospitals in Philadelphia and Phoenix. Based on his knowledge of the healthcare environment, Mr. Cary understands the importance of recruitment and development of talent. Although CTCA’s post-graduate fellowship program is relatively new, started in 2004, many of its past fellows remain within the organization in critical roles.

  • 2004 – Vicki Diep, Assistant Vice President of Operational Development
  • 2005 – Michael Schriks, Director of General Services, Eastern Regional Medical Center
  • 2006 – Erika Hernandez, Director of Surgical Services, Midwestern Regional Medical Center
  • 2006 – Tiffany Lawson, Director of Quality & Organizational Development, Southwestern Regional Medical Center

Fellowship ProgramCTCA was founded in 1988 by Richard J Stephenson in honor of his mother, who lost her battle with cancer in 1982. He was challenged to create a better experience for cancer patients that empower them to participate in their treatment. Today, CTCA provides a comprehensive, multidisciplinary path to cancer care by integrating leading-edge medical treatments with naturopathic medicine, nutrition, oncology rehabilitation, psychological counseling, spiritual support and pain management.

CTCA Post-Graduate Fellowship is a comprehensive multidisciplinary program that consists of many operational projects that is tailored to the career goals of each individual fellow. The main intent of the program is to offer early healthcare careerists an opportunity to learn from the best healthcare leader in the field, develop their own leadership style and utilize their skills in the day-to-day operations of a fast growing dynamic hospital system whose sole focus is on patients and the integrated approach to their care.

With the complexity of the healthcare market and the uniqueness of CTCA’s business model, the program’s success is directly tied to finding the right talent, thus making the Post-Graduate Fellowship a highly selective process. The program offers a one-year appointment based at one the hospitals within the CTCA system. Over the course of the year, the fellow will have a broad range of exposure to all areas of the CTCA Healthcare System, including:

  • Organizational Structure, Governance, Corporate Leadership, and Culture
  • CTCA Philosophy, Mission, Vision, Values, and Promise to its patients and caregivers
  • Physician Practice, Hospital and Clinical Operations
  • Strategic Planning and Finance
  • Marketing and Business Development
  • Quality, Process Improvement, and Healthcare Lean Six Sigma
