Naturopathic oncology providers are experts in our supportive care program at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA). Naturopathic medicine is a tool to support oncology patients undergoing conventional treatment and in survivorship by providing supportive therapies to help with:
Naturopathic medicine is designed to work in conjunction with conventional treatment to help address treatment-related side effects. Naturopathic medicine providers review and monitor your dietary supplements to help you avoid potential drug-herb and drug-nutrient interactions.
Every patent at CTCA® has an option to incorporate naturopathic medicine into your care plan. If you choose to meet with an naturopathic oncology provider, he or she will review your history and make suggestions that may include:
Our naturopathic oncology providers have extensive knowledge of the impacts of radiation, chemotherapy and other conventional cancer treatments. They are available to provide input on your treatment plan and are in regular communication with your oncology team at CTCA. The Naturopathic Medicine Department also provides an educational component as well. Programs include information about vitamin and mineral supplements, natural remedies, nutritional guidance, lifestyle changes and stress management techniques.
The naturopathic medicine team at CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center includes several professionals who hold a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from a doctoral-level program accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education. In addition, some have also completed residency programs in naturopathic oncology.
The naturopathic team meets every morning to review schedules, discuss specific patient issues, and agree on goals for the day. The team also meets monthly to review new data, studies and naturopathic therapies. Additionally, three times a week, the naturopathic team attends endorsement meetings with all the clinical disciplines present.
The naturopathic team also participates in “comfort rounds” two times a week for inpatients. These visits occur in the patient’s hospital room and include clinicians from many disciplines to discuss patients' physical, emotional, spiritual, financial or other concerns.
