Our department

The Critical Care Department at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) provides comprehensive and continuous care to critically ill or hospitalized patients through the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Some examples of patients who may need critical care during the course of their cancer treatment include:

  • Patients who experience infections or complications
  • Patients with respiratory problems
  • Patients who undergo cancer surgery
  • Patients with co-existing medical conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease

Our ICU provides specialized nursing care, including oncologic, surgical, cardiovascular, renal (including hemodialysis), infectious disease and respiratory care (including ventilator support). Patients in the ICU receive advanced monitoring and care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our critical care team includes intensivists, physicians, critical care nurses, cardiopulmonary specialists and other experts. The team takes a multidisciplinary approach, and works closely with patients' oncologists to provide streamlined, integrative care and attention.
