A surgical oncologist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Eastern Regional Medical Center, Dr. Russell Mark Reisner brings medical expertise and compassionate care to CTCA patients each day.

A New York native, Dr. Reisner is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, whereby he is certified. He specializes in soft tissue cancer and gastrointestinal oncology surgery.

Dr. Reisner earned a bachelor’s degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he graduated magna cum laude. While there, he participated in research for the Department of Immunology.

Dr. Reisner earned a medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. While there, he worked on clinical trials at the hospital’s Kaplan Cancer Center. He then completed an internship and surgical residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York, as well as a surgical oncology fellowship at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York.

Before joining CTCA, Dr. Reisner spent eight years as a surgical oncologist at North Shore Surgical Specialists in Great Neck, New York. Additionally, Dr. Reisner served as a surgical oncologist at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, where he received an Excellence in Teaching Award. He also served as assistant professor of surgery at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Dr. Reisner has published works on a variety of topics, including micrometastasis in breast cancer, post-operative bleeding complications and the influence of genes on common diseases. He has also given numerous presentations on a variety of cancer topics, including stomach cancer, soft tissue sarcoma, breast cancer, small cell lung cancer, head and neck cancer, sentinel lymph node biopsy and immunobiology.

In January 2008, Dr. Reisner joined the surgical oncology team at CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center. He says he values the shared commitment of CTCA clinicians and staff to provide patient-centered care to people living with cancer. “The best thing about CTCA is working in a place where everyone shares the same belief—the patient comes first!” says Dr. Reisner.

Dr. Reisner and the rest of the surgical oncology group at Eastern work closely with the other clinical areas in a team approach to pull knowledge and resources together. In describing what makes CTCA different from other hospitals, Dr. Reisner says: “CTCA is the only place I have seen where multidisciplinary care is the rule, not the exception.”
