“Ever since I began working in healthcare, I have seen the connection between the body and the spirit,” says Reverend Doctor Drew Angus, Director of Spiritual Outreach at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA). “At CTCA®, we embrace that connection and focus on creating a healing environment through integrative care.”
Reverend Angus began his career as a nurse after earning his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at LaSalle University in Philadelphia. He worked in an intensive care unit of a large regional medical center, and then in home and hospice care.
Driven by his experience in healthcare, Reverend Angus soon turned to ministry. “Walking with patients and their families during some of their most vulnerable moments was like a theological education
.” he says. “They taught me the strength of faith.”
Reverend Angus joined World Harvest Mission, serving as a Church Development Missionary in Dublin, Ireland, from 1986 to 1990, managing an outreach and drop-in center. He completed his Master of Arts in New Testament at Biblical Theological Seminary in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, in 1992, and continued his work with World Harvest Mission, serving as Director of North American Renewal Ministry from 1992 to 2004. He then became Regional Leader for the Eastern United States with The Christian Reformed Church of North America. In 2011, Reverend Angus completed his Doctor of Ministry at Biblical Theological Seminary. He joined CTCA in March 2014.
Reverend Angus holds a certification in Organizational and Human Development from Temple University, and a certificate in Men4Directions, a year-long program focused on faith and spirituality for men. He is also a certified coach through The Gallup Organization. He is currently in training as a Spiritual Director with Oasis Ministries for Spiritual Development.
As Director of Spiritual Outreach, Reverend Angus specializes in the connection between spirituality and health. He works with faith-based communities to provide support for people coping with cancer. He also works with the Pastoral Care Team to offer comprehensive support for couples, caregivers and children of those with cancer.
When he is not at CTCA, Reverend Angus and his wife, Ann, focus on their garden and on raising award-winning Cairn terriers and American Singer Canaries. He is also part of the leadership team at Spirit and Truth Fellowship Church in Philadelphia.
