Pharmacy staff
Joseph Coyne, Director of Pharmacy Services, leads the team of over 30 health care professionals. Coyne is a registered pharmacist with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. Coyne handles the high-level administrative aspects of the department.
The pharmacy team is comprised of over 11 full and part-time pharmacists, over 16 pharmacy technicians, an inventory purchaser, and an individual dedicated to supplements and nutritional support.
To further ensure the efficiency and reliability of its processes, the Pharmacy institutes an additional management role. Assistant Director of Pharmacy Services Tim Rafter, who also holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, oversees the pharmacists, technicians, and the day-to-day clinical functions of the department.
Collaboration
The pharmacy team is in constant communication with the members of your care team. For instance, pharmacists attend endorsement meetings three times a week. During these meetings, your doctors and other clinicians from across the hospital join together in one room to share knowledge and plan treatment.
According to Coyne, during these meetings the pharmacy team addresses questions from your care team about the administration of drugs, drug interactions and patient allergies. In addition, your clinicians and pharmacists will share information about new cancer drugs on the market.
