Treating you like family
In addition to offering advanced treatments and medical expertise, Dr. Schmidt and his team will also provide attentive, compassionate care.
Like your other clinicians at CTCA, the orthopedic oncology team abides by the Mother Standard® of care. This means they will fight for you with every option available as if you were family.
At CTCA, we also understand how important it is for you to get sufficient time with your doctors and clear answers to your questions so you can make informed decisions about your treatment. When you meet with Dr. Schmidt and his team, you will have a central voice in your care.
“Here, the patient participates in his or her care. They can voice their concerns. The options are presented to them,” says Dr. Schmidt. It’s all part of the CTCA Patient Empowerment MedicineSM philosophy of care. It means your clinicians will put you first and empower you with options, information, and support the way you need it.
“When I see a patient who has an orthopedic oncologic problem, my job is to tell them what their options are. So, the patient is always very much involved in what happens to them. We don’t say: ‘This is your problem. This is what you need.’ Instead, we say: ‘Here is your diagnosis. This is what it means in terms of how it will affect your life. Here are your options in terms of how we can handle it.’ It is always tailored towards the patient and what his or her expectations are,” says Dr. Schmidt.
