Aftercare Program

At Cancer Treatment Centers of America, we believe that aftercare should begin before your first treatment. We will work with you to understand the benefits and risks of your treatment plan so you can make an informed decision. Our goal is to share and improve your journey of healing and hope beyond your treatment.

During your treatment, you have a comprehensive team of practitioners available to you in areas such as medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, nutrition, naturopathic medicine, physical therapy, pain management, mind-body medicine and spiritual support. These practitioners work with you to develop a care plan for you during and after your treatment.

Side effects of cancer treatment fall into three basic categories:

Immediate/temporary – these are transient effects that quickly disappear once treatment is completed.

Durable effects – these are permanent effects – such as the removal of tissue during surgery.

Late effects – these are effects that may not be immediately present or evident during treatment – these effects may not always be directly attributed to treatment.

We continue to partner with you after your cancer treatment is complete. We understand that cancer can affect many aspects of your life – such as relationships with loved ones, work, physical appearance and durable and late effects of cancer treatment. It’s common for many patients to have anxiety about a recurrence of their cancer and naturally, they want to know what steps they can take towards prevention. The first step is thorough, regular evaluations of your overall health. Much like our approach to cancer treatment, an integrated team works with you to develop a plan to optimize your health and provide you with the resources to feel in control.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria at Eastern Regional Medical Center is a favorite spot of our patients to relax and connect with others. Located conveniently on the first floor of the hospital and designed by CTCA patients, you will find a great selection of healthy, organic foods and natural meats along with round tables to encourage interaction between our patients and their families.

Whether you are admitted to the hospital, or are being treated in our outpatient setting, you and one guest will be given meal passes which entitle you to a complimentary breakfast, lunch and dinner in our dining room. If you are staying in one of our guest rooms, you may also choose to have your meals brought to your guest room.

The Food Service department at Eastern is managed by an executive chef and has licensed and registered dieticians on staff that coordinate with the clinical nutrition department to provide healthy cuisine like fresh fruit selections and organic foods. This is not your typical hospital food – you have to experience it to believe it!

Cancer Fighter Program

The Cancer Fighter Program at Eastern Regional Medical Center offers a community of support and exchange among patients, caregivers and cancer survivors. Our goal is to encourage a partnership role in healthcare decisions, treatments and many other choices people will face during their journey. It provides you and your loved ones an opportunity to share your experiences, educate one each other, to encourage and be encouraged.

Many Cancer Fighters share their personal story on the Cancer Treatment Centers of America website and in their local newspapers. They speak at seminars or participate in community activities such as cancer walks and runs, and many other local events. Others keep copies of the Cancer Fighter magazines, the Take Control of Cancer Guide and other Cancer Treatment Centers of America information in their homes, vehicles and work place.

CarePage Service

Eastern Regional Medical Center is proud to offer our patients and family members the CarePage service. CarePage is a free, interactive support service that connects you to your network of family members, friends and fellow patients who play meaningful roles in your support group. Emotional support is central to hope and healing—that’s why your CTCA CarePage gives you unlimited access to a variety of uplifting, life-affirming connection points like the patient update, photo gallery and message board.

The CarePage is a secure and private web site created by the patient or caregiver that helps your network of family and friends learn about the patient’s progress, share messages of support and offer assistance in a non-intrusive manner. CarePages are easy to set up—just follow the simple instructions below to get started. Once you are set up, you can invite all of your family and friends to visit the site for news and updates.

1) Visit www.carepages.com/ctca

2) Click “Create a CarePage”

3) Register, and follow a few simple steps to complete your CarePage

Computers

Two computers are available for patient and caregiver use in the patient lounge areas located near the guest rooms. You can use these computers to learn more about your cancer type, check email, and create a personalized CarePage to update family and friends on your treatment.

Lodging

For the convenience of our patients visiting from outside of Philadelphia, we are pleased to offer a selection of comfortable rooms near Eastern Regional Medical Center at a discounted rate, as well as specially prepared meals featuring organic produce and natural meats at the hospital. Our guest rooms offer many of the amenities of home including lounge areas where you watch TV, check email, and get to know other patients who are fighting cancer along side you.

We’d also be happy to help you make reservations at a nearby hotel. Please speak to your New Patient Coordinator or to an Oncology Information Specialist for more information.

Pharmacy

The pharmacy is located on the 3rd floor of Eastern Regional Medical Center. Here, you can order naturopathic supplements and find Cancer Nutrition Centers of America products. For your convenience, an independent retail pharmacy is also located on site to fill your prescriptions and to buy other necessities.

Spiritual Support

New research shows that spirituality and religion can play a vital role in helping people cope with cancer. From the day CTCA was founded, the belief that faith can carry people through difficult times has been an integral part of our philosophy. No matter what your religion or beliefs, we can help you explore ways that spirituality can play a part in your healing.
