From a young age, Dr. Stuart Pollack felt the calling to become a doctor. He explains: “I was raised in a medical family, with my father and two brothers both physicians. Medicine had always captivated me. I wanted to engage in the compassionate care of those ill and in need.”

Dr. Pollack began his education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in biology with minors in chemistry, mathematics, and computer science and engineering. After graduating cum laude, he entered the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. An overachiever in every sense of the word, Dr. Pollack earned a Master of Science degree in engineering while in medical school.

Of his time in medical school, Dr. Pollack describes: “I sought a medical specialty that naturally combined both medicine and computer science and found that radiology suited me best.” His training led to his general certification by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). He also earned specialized certification by the ABR in neuroradiology and vascular and interventional radiology.

After graduating from medical school, Dr. Pollack served as an internal medicine resident at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. He then returned to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as a diagnostic radiology resident, where he worked alongside his father who was a professor of radiology at the time.

Upon completing his residency, Dr. Pollack remained on staff, first as a neuroradiology fellow and later as an interventional radiology fellow. He reflects on his time as a fellow: “The combination of neuroradiology and interventional radiology has allowed me to not only diagnose medical conditions, but to also treat them using state-of-the-art interventional techniques.” During his stay at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Pollack served as an instructor of radiology.

Over the years, Dr. Pollack has held 11 staff appointments, four private practice positions, and four faculty appointments. His research publications have appeared in Neurology, American Journal of Neuroradiology, and Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

Several of Dr. Pollack’s close family members have been afflicted with cancer, including his father who ultimately lost his battle with the disease. This, Dr. Pollack says, has only strengthened his drive to compassionately deliver specialized care to maximize patients’ quality of life.

Dr. Pollack explains: “I feel privileged to be able to practice my skills at CTCA, where a comprehensive, integrated, and multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer patients is a central paradigm. Not only are patients’ physical needs being met with state-of-the-art techniques, but their emotional needs are also addressed and considered equally important.”

Of patient care, Dr. Pollack states: “It is very important for me to give my patients the time and respect they deserve, offer them warm understanding, address their fears and concerns, and explain how I can cooperatively assist in their care using our interventional techniques.”

Dr. Pollack belongs to seven professional organizations including the Radiologic Society of North America, the American College of Radiology, and the Society of Interventional Radiology. In his spare time, he enjoys woodworking, biking, music, sports, cinema, and spending time with family.
