A firm believer in the CTCA Mother Standard® of care and the benefits of comprehensive cancer care, Dr. Steven Wagner states, “I approach caring for each patient as if they were my family member. I ask myself what I would do if this were my wife, my father, my mother, my siblings.”

In his role as interventional radiologist at CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center, Dr. Wagner is continually inspired by the determination of his patients. He notes, “CTCA patients are very strong, intelligent, and highly motivated people who seek out the best for their cancer care. It is their strength that inspires me to provide the latest interventional oncology procedures in a compassionate and caring environment.”

Dr. Wagner earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, where he graduated summa cum laude with the title of Valedictorian. He then earned a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where he again graduated summa cum laude. During medical school, Dr. Wagner earned multiple honors, including the Humanism in Medicine award granted by the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey and the Philip J. Hodes Prize in Radiology.

A Pennsylvania native, Dr. Wagner stayed in Philadelphia, where he completed an internship at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, followed by a radiology residency and a cardiovascular and interventional radiology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. During these years, the Radiologic Society of North America honored him with multiple research awards in radiology.

Dr. Wagner’s areas of expertise include interventional oncology, peripheral arterial disease, venous disease, and musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary interventions. He holds a professional license by the American Board of Radiology in both vascular and interventional radiology, as well as diagnostic radiology. He also holds a New Jersey State Medical license and a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Medical Physician and Surgeon license.

Before coming to CTCA, Dr. Wagner held several positions in hospitals and private practices in and around the Philadelphia area including Doylestown Hospital and Parlee & Tatem Radiologic Associates.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Wagner has authored articles in the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, the Journal of the Pennsylvania Academy of Sciences, Radiology, and the Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography as well as a book chapter in Abrams’ Angiography. He has also delivered national lectures.

Dr. Wagner describes his reason for joining CTCA: “I decided to join CTCA because I was attracted to the combination of providing highly advanced care and procedures in a truly multidisciplinary setting. After visiting [the hospital], I was impressed by the positive attitude and hope which echoed throughout CTCA.”

At CTCA, Dr. Wagner continually learns new techniques and advancements in medicine that can help his patients. He provides therapies such as chemoembolization, radiofrequency ablation, coblation, and vertebroplasty.

According to Dr. Wagner, “CTCA is one of few institutions to currently offer lung radiofrequency ablation.” He adds, “Furthermore, we are one of only a few institutions in the country to offer coblation for painful spine tumors and I am also delighted about our developing TheraSphere program.”

Dr. Wagner is a member of eight professional organizations, including the Society of Interventional Radiology, American College of Phlebology, American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the American College of Radiology. He credits his wife and three young children for providing him daily encouragement and support.
