Naturopathic medicine is a distinctively natural approach to health and healing that recognizes the integrity of the whole person. Methods of treatment are chosen to work with the patient's vital force, respecting the intelligence of the natural healing process. Michelle Qaqundah’s education and training has taken her around the world, and now she brings the naturopathic philosophy to CTCA patients.
Board certified as a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO), Qaqundah earned a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Oregon. Her training included a special emphasis on women’s health and oncology. Qaqundah earned an undergraduate degree in human biology (with an emphasis on the physical, psychological, sociological, and spiritual aspects of the human self) from Scripps College in California.
Qaqundah was hired as a staff naturopathic at CTCA after a two-year hospital-based residency in naturopathic oncology at CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center. She later acted as the interim director before moving to Philadelphia to direct the Naturopathic Medicine Department at CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center.
Qaqundah has performed research applying Chinese herbal extracts to lung cancer cell cultures. She has completed herbal apprenticeships at the Dreamtime Center for Herbal Studies in Virginia, with traditional herbalists at the Khan-il-Khalili (Traditional Market) in Egypt, and at the Kopat Holim Holistic Clinic in Israel. She has also performed medical volunteer work at Saint Vincent de Paul Pediatric Hospital in Israel and with the Gnaua tribe in Morocco.
Additionally, Qaqundah has lectured extensively on the CTCA seminar circuit and at other venues, such as the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians conference.
Qaqundah is the president of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She also belongs to several other professional organizations, including the International Society for Complementary Medicine Research, the Society for Integrative Oncology and the American Holistic Medical Association.
