The whole-person approach to cancer care at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) incorporates faith as both a practical and often necessary resource for healing. Rev. Michael Barry, Director of Pastoral Care at CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center, works daily with cancer patients and their families as they cope with the disease and move towards recovery.
“I am thrilled that an organization like CTCA exists and understands the connection between the spiritual and physical self; between faith and healing. It is my duty to be a resource to cancer patients, helping them to find a better, more hopeful place of peace, rest, renewal and healing. The greater the hope, the greater the likelihood that patients will find the fortitude and strength, purpose and desire to fight cancer,” says Rev. Barry.
Rev. Barry specializes in the connection between spirituality and health, particularly as it relates to cancer. He has written two books on the topic: A Reason for Hope, which deals primarily with issues related to faith and physical well-being, and A Season for Hope, a daily devotional for those battling cancer. His third and most recent book, The Art of Caregiving, deals with how to lend support and encouragement to loved ones with a chronic illness.
Rev. Barry earned a Doctor of Ministry degree at Fuller Theological Seminary. He earned a Master of Divinity degree at Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Texas at Austin. Throughout his 15-year ministry, Rev. Barry has conducted numerous radio and television interviews around the country on the topic of spirituality and health.
