“I want my patients to have every aspect of their health and well being supported. In this way, they can fight the best fight against their disease by using all the resources and knowledge available from the many different disciplines of healing,” says David Allderdice, ND. A naturopathic resident at CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center (Eastern), Allderdice believes that the integrative model provides the best care possible.
Allderdice has extensive training in cancer care, botanical medicine, IV therapy, nutrition, mind-body medicine, and naturopathic manipulation.
Allderdice earned a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon. There, he earned the Founder’s Scholarship and the Wise Woman Herbal Scholarship. He also served as Vice President of the senior class.
Part of Allderdice's doctoral training included work in an integrative cancer care clinic, in which he examined a different type of cancer each week, presented on chemotherapy drugs, collaborated with local oncologists, and learned the supplements best proven in cancer treatment. He also helped coordinate the 51st Annual Northwest Naturopathic Physicians Convention (NWNPC) in Portland.
Allderdice holds a bachelor’s degree from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, where he was a National Merit Scholar and earned the Leeds Prize for Excellence in Geology and the Whitman Merit Scholarship.
For a period of nine years, Allderdice traveled to five continents and over 20 different countries. He spent four months backpacking through parts of South America and studied in New Zealand for five months. In addition, he traveled through Europe and visited Ghana, Morocco, and Nicaragua.
In November 2008, Allderdice joined Eastern’s Naturopathic Medicine Department. When asked what makes the department unique, Allderdice says, “Most naturopaths have private outpatient clinics and are peripheral to traditional cancer care. By including naturopaths as part of the care team here at CTCA, we can best integrate all that natural and complementary has to offer the cancer patient while they are receiving state-of-the-art treatment.”
Allderdice adds “We provide a wide assortment of options and approaches so each patient gets individualized and comprehensive care.”
When asked what he likes best about working at CTCA, Allderdice says: “CTCA is leading the way towards better, more compassionate healthcare. I feel supported in any work I do, as long as it comes from the heart. This results in more smiles on patients, family members, and coworkers. I am proud to be part of an organization that encourages me, and those around me, to care for one another like family.”
Allderdice is a member of several professional organizations, including the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Society of Integrative Oncology, and the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
