At Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), we are proud to place our patients at the center of everything we do. Dr. Anthony Perre is a shining example of our considerate, sympathetic physicians who are committed to putting patients first. He believes it is critical to listen and respond to all patient needs—be they physical, emotional and/or spiritual. In addition, he strongly feels that patients should be treated with the compassion and dignity they deserve.
Dr. Perre fully understands what it’s like to be in the patient’s shoes—he himself is a Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor.
He says, “I understand that it is extremely frightening to consider that there may be a potential impediment to realizing future hopes and dreams. The uncertainty of what the future will bring can also be overwhelming.”
Dr. Perre adds, “I believe that faith in God, positive attitude and surrounding yourself with a team of kind, compassionate, responsive and talented people who deliver care is imperative in fighting your cancer.”
As Chief of Medicine and lead hospitalist at CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center, Dr. Perre directs, coordinates and manages the general medical care of hospitalized patients. He explains that this may involve managing patients’ blood glucose levels, hypertension or more complex cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal or gastrointestinal issues. Furthermore, Dr. Perre also identifies if there are any barriers to a patient’s recovery. He works with members of that patient’s care team (e.g., oncologist, nutritionist, physical therapist, naturopathic practitioner, spiritual advisor) to address any problems.
Prior to joining CTCA, Dr. Perre practiced both outpatient and inpatient hospital medicine for nine years, serving the community of Doylestown, Pennsylvania at Doylestown Hospital.
Dr. Perre has a special interest in diabetic management. While at Doylestown Hospital, he served as a member of the Diabetic Control Committee, overseeing protocols for improved management of blood sugars for hospitalized patients. He also served as a chairman of the hospital’s Infection Control Committee. As chairman of this committee, Dr. Perre instituted practices to reduce the incidence of hospital-acquired infections.
A native of Philadelphia, Dr. Perre graduated from medical school at the Medical College of Pennsylvania (now known as Drexel University’s College of Medicine), where he also completed his internship, residency and served as chief resident.
Dr. Perre is board certified and has been recognized by Philadelphia magazine and Delaware Valley Consumers’ CHECKBOOK as a “Top Doctor” in internal medicine. He belongs to several professional organizations, including the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the American College of Physicians and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
