"A cancer diagnosis is difficult on so many levels. I am here to be supportive of my patients—of whatever needs they have."
Veronica Stevens, ND
Naturopathic Oncology Provider
Veronica Stevens, a naturopathic oncology provider at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Eastern Regional Medical Center (Eastern), explains why she loves coming to work each day: “I love that naturopathic medicine is combined with conventional medicine here. CTCA is ahead of its time in understanding the value of an integrative approach to cancer care. I am truly able to honor my purpose to assist patients and respect their decisions.”
Stevens earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Kean University in Union, New Jersey. During her undergraduate years, she held internships at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey and at the National Institutes of Health, Infectious Disease Division in Bethesda, Maryland. During this time, Stevens also participated in a community service sorority, Zeta Phi Beta.
Stevens then attended the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, where she earned a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine. During graduate school, she worked as a medicinary assistant, compounding homeopathic remedies, botanical tincture and tea. She also shadowed several naturopathic clinicians, including Letitia Cain at CTCA.
Prior to joining the naturopathic medicine team at Eastern, Stevens worked as a natural health educator for the Department of Education Service’s Natural Medicine for Family HealthCare initiative in Washington, D.C. She is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
When asked why she joined CTCA, Stevens states, “My preceptor experience at CTCA in Tulsa, Oklahoma was an eye-opening and life-changing
experience because it showed me the value of an integrative approach to patient care. The philosophy of hope inspired me.”
When asked what she likes best about
working at CTCA, Stevens says, “I like working at CTCA because [the organization] is serious about putting the needs of the patient first. Every decision is easier when you ask yourself
what is best for the patient.”
Stevens approaches each patient with gentle compassion and understanding. Her goal is to restore a sense of wellness.
In her spare time, Stevens enjoys cooking, learning to play the piano, swimming, jogging, tennis and reading. A few of her favorite books are The Four Agreements, Think and Grow Rich and the Bible. Stevens believes her greatest strengths are her creativity, humor and ability to connect with people.
