Dr. Kristin Parris at CTCA at Eastern Regional Medical Center

“My overall goal for my patients is for them to be fully informed about their personal health and to ensure they know they are in an environment where their overall well-being is the priority,” says Dr. Kristin Parris.

Dr. Parris long sought an environment where patients truly are the focus of the care delivered. She discovered it close to home at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Eastern Regional Medical Center in Philadelphia, the city where she’s served patients for 20 years. In January 2011, Dr. Parris joined the hospital’s integrated team of cancer care providers.

“The Mother Standard® of care at CTCA epitomizes how I believe healthcare should be delivered to everyone,” says Dr. Parris. “I have always had an interest in oncology and CTCA provided an opportunity to return to a field that I have always found intellectually challenging, evolving and with no prejudice for who it afflicts.”

Dr. Parris adds, “What I enjoy most about working at CTCA is the ability to spend time with people living with cancer. To be able to listen, educate and provide a window of hope is phenomenal. And to be able to use my internal medicine background to educate about non-cancer issues has also been rewarding.”

As an intake physician, Dr. Parris works in concert with patients and oncologists to help facilitate the necessary testing and consultation to best equip patients and their care team to develop cancer treatment plans. She addresses medical issues patients may have, such as helping to manage elevated blood pressure or blood sugars acutely. As a hospitalist, Dr. Parris cares for medical needs of inpatients at the hospital.

Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Parris earned a medical degree from Temple University in Philadelphia. She completed an internal medicine residency at Temple University Hospital. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.

Previously, Dr. Parris served in a number of roles at Temple University Hospital, including as inpatient attending physician, preoperative clinic attending physician, associate professor of medicine, and Director of Consultative Medicine.

Dr. Parris is a member of the American College of Physicians. She enjoys tennis, running, cooking, reading, and “being a very loud parent cheerleader” at her daughter’s field hockey games and tennis matches.

Dr. Parris believes hope is important for people battling cancer just as hope is a mainstay for anyone. She notes, “Hope builds confidence and keeps the glass half full. It gives one the positive mental energy to deal with difficulties that are presented. Hope provided by a professional treatment team gives hope to people living with cancer in that there are people who will not give up on them.”
