Dr. Kenneth Morgenstern is nationally renowned in the field of ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is certified by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and board certified by the American Board of Opthalmology. Dr. Morgenstern is also one of two physicians in Pennsylvania who has been recognized for the international Marvin Quickert Award for excellence in research.
Dr. Morgenstern specializes in treating skin, eyelid, tear drain (lacrimal), and orbital malignancies. One of the most sophisticated procedures he performs at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Eastern Regional Medical Center is endoscopic transorbital tumor removal.
Dr. Morgenstern says what he enjoys most about working with CTCA is that people are treated with respect and understanding.
A native of Philadelphia, Dr. Morgenstern earned a medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Emory University.
Following medical school, Dr. Morgenstern trained in general and trauma surgery at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University. He was honored as resident of the year during his training. Dr. Morgenstern was also awarded a research fellowship under the direction of Dr. Joel Roslyn, a world-renowned hepatobiliary surgeon. At this time, Dr. Morgenstern received his first research project grant from the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Morgenstern went on to complete a second residency in ophthalmology at West Virginia University (WVU) under Dr. John Linberg, a well-known orbital and lacrimal surgeon. At WVU, he served as chief resident in the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Morgenstern also completed a fellowship in orbital and facial plastic surgery at Ohio State University. He then completed training in pediatric oculoplastic and craniofacial surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Columbus, Ohio, and in facial cosmetic surgery at the Center for Facial Rejuvenation, also in Columbus.
Previously, Dr. Morgenstern served as Director of Orbital and Oculoplastic Services at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, where he taught fellows and residents of the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He also has served as the Director of Oculoplastic and Facial Reconstructive Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia. In Virginia, he was awarded the resident education award for teaching excellence.
Dr. Morgenstern has conducted extensive research and has been published in multiple medical journals, including the American Journal of Opthalmology, the Journal of Rheumatology, Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and most recently, Clinics of Otolaryngology. In addition, he has authored textbook chapters and is a frequent lecturer and presenter on reconstructive and cosmetic surgery topics at both clinical and scientific conferences.
Dr. Morgenstern is a member of a number of professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Opthalmology, as well as the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
