"The most enjoyable part of being associated with Cancer Treatment Centers of America is working with the people who come here for treatment—the patients. Their hope, desire and fight for life are inspiring."

Dr. Jeffrey A. Sklar
Medical Director of Chiropractor Services

“My focus is to help patients with pain reduction, with the intention of reducing the need for pain medication.  Additionally, I work to improve mobility and overall range of motion. By increasing mobility and reducing pain through chiropractic, the goal is that patients will feel less stress and anxiety and experience relief from some of the common side effects of cancer treatment,” says Dr. Jeffrey Sklar, a chiropractor at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Eastern Regional Medical Center (Eastern).

Dr. Sklar has been practicing chiropractic and rehabilitative physical therapy for over 10 years. He earned a doctorate of chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University.

Dr. Sklar has extensive training and clinical experience in treating patients with neuromuscular and skeletal conditions, as well as more complicated conditions, such as cancer. He practices Palmer package, flexion distraction, activator technique and sacro occiputal technique.

Throughout his career, Dr. Sklar has had a professional seminar, newspaper and media presence. In 2006, Dr. Sklar received the City Paper Reader’s Choice Award for Best Chiropractor in Philadelphia.

Prior to joining CTCA, Dr. Sklar served as the chiropractor at Triune Chiropractic Counseling and Wellness Center in Center City Philadelphia, an integrative wellness center he co-founded in 2002. There, Dr. Sklar practiced state-of-the-art injury rehabilitation and supervised wellness services, including pilates, yoga, muscular therapy and acupuncture.

In addition to his professional experience in oncology, Dr. Sklar has witnessed the struggle and success of cancer survivors in his personal life. His mother and brother are both cancer survivors. His stepmother is also a three-time survivor and former co-chair of the Komen Race For The Cure in Philadelphia.

In May 2009, Dr. Sklar joined the chiropractic team at Eastern. When asked why he came here, Dr. Sklar says, “Being a founder of a holistic integrative wellness center in Philadelphia and having treated many cancer patients over the years, CTCA’s philosophy of the Mother Standard® of care and patient empowerment resonates deeply in my practice paradigm.”

Another element that drew him to CTCA, Dr. Sklar says, is the whole-person model of cancer care. “Patients are in a fight for their lives. CTCA gives them a full spectrum of services in addition to cutting-edge and advanced technologies in diagnostics and treatment. Patients are treated as whole beings—body, mind and spirit. Every patient has an opportunity to collaborate with their oncologist and explore additional complementary therapies in conjunction with their conventional cancer treatments.”

Dr. Sklar says he and the other members of a patient’s care team work together to meet the individual needs of each patient. “The team of clinicians at CTCA creates a very satisfying work environment and experience. Being able to easily and quickly confer about patient care with any clinician on a patient’s care team is an unparalleled advantage over more conventional facilities.”

According to Dr. Sklar, patients report that they can tell the difference when they come to the hospital. “CTCA works tirelessly 24/7 to create a special environment where people know that they are more than just a patient. They can see their team working together to get the best results possible,” he says.

Dr. Sklar is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Chiropractic Association and the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association.
