An advanced oncology certified nurse, Cheryl Carr joined the team of cancer care providers at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Philadelphia in April 2012. She emphasizes, “I was immediately impressed with the way CTCA treats each patient in a holistic and respectful manner. The doctors and team members offer guidance and treatment options, empowering patients to have more of a say in their treatment decisions.”
Carr says of her role in our patients’ care, “I am here to listen to patients and help guide them through the processes that are necessary.”
Carr’s responsibilities as a nurse practitioner include obtaining patients’ medical histories; performing physical examinations; ordering and interpreting lab and imaging tests; writing orders for chemotherapy; and, prescribing medication to treat symptoms and side effects.
Carr earned a master of science degree in nursing from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio. She completed a bachelor of science degree in nursing at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Previously, Carr served as an oncology nurse practitioner at cancer care facilities in Columbus and Zanesville, Ohio. For many years, she also was a support group facilitator for local chapters of the American Cancer Society and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Carr is a member of several professional organizations, including the Oncology Nursing Society, American College of Nurse Practitioners and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. She has presented on topics such as breast cancer, dose intensity and chemotherapy regimens, and monoclonal antibodies at various clinical meetings.
