"I want patients to know that, as best I can, I understand what they are going through is tough. I’m here to support patients by encouraging them and helping them manage their nutritional intake."

Amanda Agamy, RD, LDN
Clinical Oncology Dietitian

“I really enjoy having the opportunity to speak with patients about their nutritional needs and concerns,” says Amanda Agamy, a registered and licensed dietitian at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Eastern Regional Medical Center. Agamy works on a close-knit care team that includes a medical oncologist, naturopathic oncology provider, care manager and registered nurse. The team tailors treatment to patients’ unique needs.

“Many of our patients experience nutritional challenges from treatment, including taste changes, nausea and decreased appetite,” she says. “As a dietitian, I try to help patients manage those symptoms by providing specific, symptom-related nutrition tips to help keep their nutritional intake up.”

During Agamy’s consultations with patients, she also educates them about nutritional myths they may have come across prior to treating at CTCA. She helps patients get the facts and information they need to make healthy dietary choices.

Agamy says there were multiple reasons why she decided to work for CTCA, including that she wanted to be part of a patient-centered organization.

“My own family has been affected by cancer, and to be able to help and work with patients going through the same thing was important to me,” she notes.

Agamy holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. She completed a dietetic internship through Loyola University in Chicago. She is a member of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, as well as its Philadelphia chapter.

Prior to joining CTCA in February 2011, Agamy served as a dietitian and nutrition supervisor for a hospital in St. Louis. She is also a part-time diabetes educator for an outside organization that serves the tristate area.

Agamy’s hobbies include cooking, working out, going to concerts and exploring her new hometown of Philadelphia. She grew up in a small town that’s about an hour south of Chicago.
