Computed tomography (CT) is one of the most commonly used tools for screening and detection of cancer. CT uses specialized scanning equipment and computers to visualize high-resolution, 3D images of the body from multiple planes.
Unlike conventional X-rays, CT scans provide exceptionally detailed images of a wide range of body organs and tissues, including both normal and abnormal tissues.
Physicians may use CT to detect and evaluate the extent of a patient’s tumors. CT is also routinely used to help oncologists assess whether tumors are responding to treatment.
