Advanced Diagnostics: Discovery™ PET/CT 600 Scanner
We use innovative methods to diagnose and stage cancer, track patients’ treatment response, and monitor tumors with greater accuracy and precision over time.
The Discovery™ PET/CT 600 scanner combines positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) imaging technology into one machine. The blending of PET and CT images into one singular image reveals information about both the structure and function of cells and tissues in the body. It also provides greater image accuracy and shortens patient treatment times.
Additionally, the scanner offers advanced motion-management capabilities. Motion in a patient’s body as a result of breathing, the beating heart, and other involuntary movement can reduce image quality and make it difficult to detect small tumors.
The motion-free platform of the Discovery PET/CT 600 scanner allows us to accurately detect multiple small lesions in areas of the body subject to movement. This is especially valuable for breast, lung, colon, renal, and prostate cancers.
Advantages of the Scanner
- Allows us to accurately identify tumor boundaries, allowing for more targeted and concentrated radiation, and saving viable tissue from radiation exposure
- Can detect lesions down to 2.8 mm, which enables us to find cancer and metastases earlier

In April 2009, CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma became the third hospital in the world and the first hospital in the nation to offer the Discovery PET/CT 600 scanner.
