A pathologist typically diagnoses cancer based on results found under a microscope. Genomic tumor testing takes the process a step further, examining the characteristics of cancer cells to try to determine how rapidly they may grow, where the cancer may spread and what abnormalities  exist that may be targeted with certain drug therapies.
