Raymond Fitzenreider, a prostate cancer survivor from Geneva, joined more than 100 five-year cancer survivors from across the country at a celebration of hope and symbolic tree planting ceremony recently at Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, according to a news release.

Fitzenreider also took part in a tree planting ceremony. The activities were part of the annual Celebrate Life event, in which cancer survivors come together to rejoice in their personal milestones and to support one another as they continue their cancer survivorship journey, the release stated.

“Being a five-year survivor means everything to me,” Fitzenreider said, according to the release. “This journey has taught me so many things, and none of it would have been possible without the amazing team at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and for that, I am blessed.”

The Celebrate Life event marks the 26th year that a tree has been planted in honor of each five-year survivor.
