Patti Jarvis, RN, PSA, on Oct. 10 was named a DAISY Award winner at Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, Ill.

In her role as care manager, Jarvis helps patients coordinate the aspects of their treatment plans, bringing together the medical oncologist, clinic nurse, registered dietitian, naturopathic oncology provider and nurse care manager.

“Patti works tirelessly to support both our patients and care management team, extending herself beyond her scope of responsibilities to volunteer her time and expertise,” Carmelita Zeta-Sanchez, RN, MSN, NE-BC, assistant vice president of nursing and CNO of CTCA, said in a news release. “She serves as a role model for our nursing staff by fully embracing the Mother Standard of Care our hospital was founded on through her ongoing compassion, work ethic, devotion and professionalism.”

Having specialized in Social Security Disability and Family Medical Leave Act applications, Jarvis provides a 24- to 48-hour turnaround on each form. She also donates handmade blankets, hats and other crafts to the hospital.

Each quarter, a nurse is selected to receive the DAISY Award by an awards committee, comprised of CTCA at Midwestern nursing leadership and peers.

“We are proud to be among the hospitals participating in the DAISY Award program,” Jacklynn Lesniak, RN, MS, BSN, senior vice president of patient care services and CNO of MRMC, said in the release. “Nurses are heroes every day, and it’s important to let our nurses know their work is meaningful.”
