Fractionated-Dose Chemotherapy for Colorectal Cancer

At Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), we are committed to making your colorectal cancer treatment as tolerable as possible. To help reduce some of the side effects associated with traditional chemotherapy, we offer innovative chemotherapy delivery methods, such as fractionated-dose chemotherapy.

Depending on your type of colorectal cancer, as well as the size of the tumor and stage of the cancer, your CTCA care team may recommend fractionated-dose chemotherapy as a colorectal cancer treatment option for you.

Fractionated-dose chemotherapy works by administering chemotherapy drugs in smaller doses over a period of several days, rather than the standard chemotherapy treatment of one large, single dose. With fractionated-dose chemotherapy, anti-cancer drugs can potentially work for a longer period of time. Also, the lower doses may help reduce some of the common treatment-related side effects, such as nausea and vomiting.

Fractionated-dose chemotherapy may be delivered prior to colon or rectal cancer surgery as a primary treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer, as well as after surgery to prevent recurrence.
