Nutrition Therapy for Cervical Cancer

Many cervical cancer patients experience gastrointestinal symptoms. The cancer nutrition therapy team at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) is dedicated to helping you stay strong and nutritionally balanced, so you can maintain your quality of life while fighting the disease.

Your dietitian will monitor your nutrition status from the beginning to the end of your cervical cancer treatment, making modifications as needed to minimize side effects and treatment interruptions before they arise.

Every cervical cancer patient is scheduled to meet with a registered dietitian during their first visit to CTCA. During this visit, you are given a full assessment to identify daily goals for calories and protein. Your cancer nutrition expert will look at your health history, disease state and treatment plan to recommend nourishing foods during your cancer care.

Nutrition Support for Cervical Cancer Treatment Side Effects

Surgery is a common treatment for cervical cancer, and patients often need help controlling their sugars post-operatively because stress can raise sugar levels. Steroids that are often used to reduce side effects of chemotherapy, such as nausea, can also raise sugars. Your dietitian will assist you in managing blood sugar levels throughout your cervical cancer treatment.

For cervical cancer patients who are undergoing aggressive treatments and are not able to meet their nutrition needs orally, the nutrition therapy team will provide alternative options, including IV nutrition and feeding tubes.

Cervical Cancer Care Under One Roof

Your dietitian communicates regularly with your oncologists and the other members of your cervical cancer team. Our Patient Empowered Care® clinic brings your medical oncologist, clinic nurse, registered dietitian, naturopathic clinician and nurse care manager to you. With this approach, you enjoy greater comfort, convenience and privacy, by meeting with your care team in one room.

Working together in close proximity allows for a fully integrated approach to treating cervical cancer. Your dietitian is able to share any specific nutrition challenges with other members of your care team, such as your gynecologic oncologist and naturopathic clinician. We work together to find solutions that meet your individual needs.
