Also known as Chemoresistance, Extreme Drug Resistance (EDR) is another innovative tool we use at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) to help customize your cervical cancer treatment.
Potential candidates for chemotherapy are often given an EDR test, which gauges how resistant your cervical cancer tumors may be to specific chemotherapeutic drugs.
Our goal is to make your chemotherapy treatment as effective as possible, avoiding unnecessary toxicity and minimizing costs. With an EDR, your CTCA care team can check to see if your cervical cancer cells grow in the presence of extreme exposure to a drug, which would indicate that you also may be resistant to those drugs. We can then use this feedback to customize your chemotherapy accordingly.
