During this exam, your doctor uses a special microscope, called a colposcoscope, to examine the cervix. The colposcope is designed to provide an enlarged view of the areas, allowing your doctor to observe any abnormal tissue.
If your doctor identifies abnormal tissue during the colposcopy, then the next step in detecting cervical cancer would be to biopsy the tissue.
