Temodar® is used primarily in the treatment of certain types of astrocytoma brain tumors (which begin in star-shaped glial cells in the brain or spinal cord called astrocytes).
Temodar® is a type of drug known as an antineoplastic, meaning that its primary function is to combat or inhibit the development and proliferation of malignant growth (i.e., tumors). Temodar® interferes with the DNA of cancerous cells, making it harder for them to divide and reproduce.
Temodar® is indicated in particular for the treatment of adult patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme (grade IV, extremely malignant astrocytoma tumors), as well as adult patients with refractory anaplastic astrocytoma (grade III astrocytoma tumors which have not responded to initial chemotherapy drugs).
Your oncology team at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) will work together with you to determine whether Temodar® would be an advantageous part of your cancer treatment regimen. We strive to keep patients well informed of all, possible brain cancer treatment options, including a combination of traditional, innovative and supportive/complementary therapies designed to treat all of you, not just the cancer.
To learn more about whole-person treatment options for cancer patients and how they can be of benefit, you can chat now with an Oncology Information Specialist from CTCA.

Temodar® is used to treat adult patients with certain types of astrocytomas (brain cancer tumors that begin in star-shaped cells called astrocytes).
Temodar® is approved by the U.S. FDA for patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) brain tumors. In these cases, Temodar® should be used concurrently with radiotherapy, and then as maintenance therapy after brain cancer radiation treatments.
Temodar® is also FDA approved for the treatment of patients with refractory anaplastic astrocytoma, meaning patients whose anaplastic astrocytoma has progressed after already being treated with other brain cancer drugs (in particular, nitrosourea and procarbazine).
