Many people who have cancer will use cancer drugs as part of the course of their treatment. Cancer drugs are powerful medicines that destroy cancer cells. Cancer drugs are used to keep cancer from spreading to other areas of the body.

Please read more about cancer drugs below. You can also learn more about Cancer Treatment Centers of America by following the links on this page. Like many cancer hospitals, Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) will use the power of cancer drugs to help fight cancer. However, CTCA goes beyond using cancer drugs to fight cancer. Our powerful combination of treatment may include cancer drugs as well as complementary and alternative cancer therapies.

While cancer drugs are powerful cancer cell killers, not everyone who goes through cancer treatment will use cancer drugs. At Cancer Treatment Centers of America your cancer doctors will work with you to decide if cancer drugs should be part of your integrative cancer treatment regimen. Deciding whether or not to use cancer drugs is a process that considers many variables. Variables affecting which cancer drugs to use, or whether to use cancer drugs at all, include your age, the stage of your cancer, your current overall health, and the type of cancer you have.

Cancer Drugs: Chemotherapy Types

Three of the ways cancer drugs are used at CTCA are in our types of chemotherapy:

  • Fractionated Dose Cancer Drugs

In fractionated dose chemotherapy, the cancer drugs are given in smaller amounts over the course of a few days. In regular chemotherapy, cancer drugs are given in large doses all in one day.

  • Intra-Arterial Cancer Drugs

In Intra-Arterial chemotherapy, the cancer drugs are delivered directly into the liver through the hepatic artery. This treatment has also been used for brain, head, face and neck tumors, the pelvis and the pancreas.

  • Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy

This form of treatment is typically used in the treatment of ovarian cancer.
