The idea of a 9-year-old Tulsa girl inspired a gubernatorial decree. Gov. Mary Fallin declared Oct. 25 "Oklahoma Gift of Giving Day" in honor of Kenzie Chabino, founder of Kenzie's Cause. The project, which delivers hand-made cards to thousands across the state, has created 211,543 at time of publish, according to the cause's website.
“The point of this is to teach kids that gifts don’t have to come off of store shelves, they can be as simple as a handmade card and has a bigger impact on others than something you can buy," said Chabino, now a 9th grade student at Tulsa Union.
Chabino, her brother and other students delivered cards to patients at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa on Wednesday.
