CHICAGO, Aug. 23, 2011-Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) President and CEO Stephen B. Bonner has been named one of the "100 Most Influential People in Healthcare," according to the annual leadership survey released by Modern Healthcare. Bonner is one of the newcomers to the list for 2011.
Bonner (No. 68) joins national figures including House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, President Barack Obama, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and presidential candidate and former U.S. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich on the 2011 list of influential leaders in healthcare, selected by readers and editors of the magazine.
"It's an honor to be included on this list and a great time to be at CTCA in healthcare," said Bonner. "Whether you agree or disagree with the recent reform legislation, one thing is certain. We must change our healthcare system to be more responsive to the needs of patients and their families – the real customers in healthcare. We cannot expect high quality and low price in any industry unless the consumer is empowered with information, authority and accountability. That is the future of healthcare, as we see it."
Bonner's steadfast commitment to CTCA's founding vision to consumer-driven cancer care brought national attention to CTCA for its innovative care model. CTCA offers the Mother Standard® of care, a comprehensive whole-person approach to care in an environment designed for patients, by patients. CTCA is one of the first cancer hospitals to incorporate Lean/Six Sigma and real-time patient feedback to accelerate improvements. CTCA is also one of the first cancer hospitals to publish results online.
"We are in the early stages of an amazing transformation in healthcare. Consumers want to decide where they get their care, who provides it and when. They want to know what's in their care plan and the quality and cost of the services they receive. In short, they want value."
CTCA recently announced its new CareEdgeSM program, offering consumers guarantees for quality and cost. In its initial phase, CareEdge offers cancer patients a complete diagnostic evaluation and treatment plan in less than five business days at one fully inclusive price. If CTCA fails to deliver, patients can get their money back or finish their plan at no additional cost.
"It's a privilege to lead an organization like CTCA. We are very clear about Our Mission and Our Promise and have spent a lot of time understanding what cancer patients and their families value most," said Bonner. "And it's only because of the thousands of dedicated clinicians and staff working at CTCA to achieve our incredible patient satisfaction and loyalty results."
Bonner joined CTCA as president and chief executive officer in 1999, and has served as a member of the CTCA Board since 1996. Under his guidance, the Schaumburg, Ill.-based organization has markedly increased the number and satisfaction of the patients and families it serves across the country. CTCA will open its newest regional destination hospital in Atlanta next September, joining centers in Chicago, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Tulsa. Bonner is also a longtime advocate for consumer-centric, quality-driven healthcare transformation that empowers patients with clear and thorough information and puts them at the center of their medical decisions, the most important decisions of their life.
CTCA specializes in complex and advance-stage adult cancer care and provides a comprehensive, fully integrated and personalized treatment experience. Cancer patients and their families travel hundreds of miles one way to receive the unique CTCA treatment model known as Patient Empowered Care®.
