CANCER TREATMENT CENTERS OF AMERICA PRESIDENT AND CEO WINS CEO OF THE YEAR AWARD

John McNeil honored with Philadelphia Business Journal’s Health Innovation Award

PHILADELPHIA (November 28, 2011)–- John M. McNeil, President and Chief Executive Officer for Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Philadelphia was named one of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2011 Healthcare Innovation Awards recipients. McNeil received the silver award for the CEO of the Year category.

McNeil, a nurse turned healthcare executive, worked at CTCA in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before moving to Philadelphia in 2004 to open CTCA’s first East Coast hospital. McNeil’s major accomplishments at CTCA include opening the Philadelphia hospital, which has treated more than 5,000 patients in less than six years; forging partnerships with community leaders and organizations throughout the city like Susan G. Komen, iPraxis and the Philadelphia Youth Network; and acquiring innovative pieces of technology like the Novac7 for intraoperative radiation therapy and the BSD-2000 deep tissue hyperthermia machine to help give patients the best chance to fight their disease. McNeil is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves as a board member for the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

“It is an honor to accept this award on behalf of the entire CTCA team who is committed to leading the charge in building a culture of innovation in cancer care,” said McNeil about receiving the prestigious award. “I have the privilege of working with more than 800 colleagues here in Philadelphia who work in shared purpose bringing forth innovative ideas that make a difference in the lives of those facing cancer every day. I am continually amazed at what our team can accomplish when we think outside the box.”

McNeil was featured in the November 11 edition of the Philadelphia Business Journal and was honored at an awards breakfast on November 8.

“Our inaugural Healthcare Innovation Awards were designed to recognize the best and brightest in the Delaware Valley’s most important industries,” said Craig Ey, editor of the Philadelphia Business Journal. “As an editor—and a reader—I was impressed by the quality of nominations we received and the incredible accomplishments of the winners. I am even more convinced that the Philadelphia area takes a backseat to no one when it comes to healthcare innovation.”
