After a year of planning and construction, Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Southwestern Regional Medical Center in Tulsa will open a state-of-the-art fitness center on Friday, January 8 with a series of grand opening workshops from 8 to 10 am, 12 noon to 2 pm and 4 to 6 pm. The Fitness Center will be open to CTCA patients, caregivers and staff.
Throughout the day, various fitness experts, including certified trainers, will be available to teach patients, caregivers and employees the proper use of each exercise machine. In addition, a CTCA nutritionist and a naturopathic practitioner will be present to discuss hydration tips, healthy-eating plans and supplements that should be considered before and after working out.
"Our patients requested this fitness center, so it is very exciting for us to be able to honor that request," said Steve Mackin, CTCA president and CEO in Tulsa. "This much-anticipated addition to our hospital will not only be a great place for our patients to maintain their health goals, but will also be a place caregivers can work out and relieve any stress they may be experiencing while caring for their loved one. Our employees will also benefit from regular physical activity to keep their bodies healthy and able to deliver our Mother Standard of care."
The 2,512-square-foot fitness center is fully equipped with cardio machines such as treadmills, elliptical machines and recumbent and upright bikes. A TV monitor is attached to each cardio machine. Other equipment includes a dumbbell rack with free weights ranging from 5 to 50 pounds, a dual-pulley machine and other weight-training machines.
