There have been significant milestones in the treatment of breast cancer over the past years that have increased treatment options, improved the quality of life and prolonged survival chances for the woman diagnosed with breast cancer. Some of these advances have included:
- Recognition of the importance of a dedicated breast specific interdisciplinary, integrated team including medical, surgical and radiation oncology, reconstructive surgery, together with evidence based complementary therapies, facilitated by a Breast Nurse Navigator.
- Lumpectomy coupled with radiation instead of mastectomy
- More effective hormone therapies for the post menopausal women
