The Joint Commission
CTCA is accredited by The Joint Commission (formerly Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, or JCAHO) with Full Standards Compliance. This accreditation decision is awarded to a healthcare organization that demonstrates satisfactory compliance with applicable Joint Commission standards in all performance areas.
Established in 1951, The Joint Commission provides the “gold standard” seal of hospital approval in healthcare. Joint Commission-accredited hospitals must pass a rigorous onsite evaluation. Joint Commission surveys address the hospital’s performance in key areas, such as patient rights and patient treatment.
Special Recognitions
CTCA Recognized as a Leader in Patient Care and Safety
In 2006, The Joint Commission published a Case Study documenting CTCA's Lean Thinking improvements in the pharmacy department. At CTCA, lean thinking is applied to improve processes, eliminate waste, and improve patient care and safety.
The pharmacy was able to reduce lab draw time to received-in-lab by 60 percent, decrease process steps by 50 percent, reduce walking distance in the lab by 83 percent, and decrease turnaround time from 61 minutes to 47 minutes, a 23 percent improvement.
In addition, practitioner and patient face-to-face contact increased 50 percent by re-evaluating the scheduling process. Today, CTCA is applying global lean thinking strategy within all departments in a continual attempt to provide patients with the Mother Standard® of care.
