Zion, Illinois – June 6, 2008 – Alice Babcock returned to Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Suburban Chicago to celebrate her five years as a Cancer Survivor.  Babcock was joined by doctors and the clinical support team in a tree planting ceremony in her honor.
Babcock, a 56-year-old resident of Crystal Lake, IL says she feels only 23-years-old on the inside, even after being diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago. Babcock was diagnosed and operated on at a hospital in Illinois, but came to CTCA after seeing a TV commercial for the cancer center.
“The reputation of CTCA and the newest technology being used to treat cancer are the two things about the center that got me there,” said Babcock of her decision to treat at CTCA.
While treating at CTCA, Babcock underwent chemotherapy, and spoke with naturopathic doctors as part of her treatment plan. “I liked that they put little drinking umbrellas in the drinks that I had to have for chemotherapy. I always felt like a person and not like a number,” said Babcock.
Babcock, an office manager at Rosborough Partners in Libertyville, IL, was able to work throughout her treatment, a testament to her philosophy that, “for breast cancer patients, you can’t assume that it’s a death sentence. You can keep your sense of humor, and keep a positive outlook. I refuse to let cancer rule my life, because it’s a small part of it.”
“My faith in God and knowing that God was in control gave me hope during treatment,” said Babcock. After being a cancer survivor five years from her original diagnosis, Babcock is excited and honored to be a part of Celebrate Life 2008. “It has made me feel more loved than I have ever felt before because of the immense support of my family, my friends, and the CTCA staff.”
This year 105 CTCA patients are celebrating their five year triumph over cancer at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. “At Cancer Treatment Centers of America, we empower our patients and help them take control of their cancer,” said Anne Meisner, president and CEO at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. “Our team provides state of the art treatment protocols with fully integrated complementary therapies. We are committed to treating the whole-person and every patient is treated as though they were a member of our own family. We are so proud of our celebrants and honored to acknowledge and celebrate their journey and their continued success,” she added.
