Zion, Illinois – June 6, 2008 – Kari Isaacs returned to Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in suburban Chicago to celebrate her five years as a Cancer Survivor. Isaacs was joined by doctors and the clinical support team in a tree-planting ceremony in her honor.
Isaacs, 51 of Coldwater, Ohio, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma during a gastric bypass surgery. Her gastric surgeon referred her to a local oncologist, however, during a sleepless night, Isaacs happened to see a commercial for CTCA. She wrote down the number, and her husband, Bob, made the call and scheduled an appointment.
Because of the location of her cancer, Isaacs underwent full abdominal radiation, combined with complementary therapies such as naturopathy and nutritional therapy. The radiation was intense, but the complementary medicines helped her tolerate the treatment. She credits her doctors for helping her get through treatment. “They were so honest about the treatment, and if they weren’t, I think I might have quit,” said Isaacs.
Isaacs never quit, and this year marks her fifth year as a cancer survivor, and she looks forward to celebrating her 20th wedding anniversary this August, and continuing to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
“I want to give back as much as I can. I’m so grateful for every day,” said Isaacs. Isaacs gives back to her community by volunteering and through her involvement with her local church. She also gives back by offering advice to people who have just been recently diagnosed with cancer.
This year 105 CTCA patients are celebrating their five year triumph over cancer at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. “At Cancer Treatment Centers of America, we empower our patients and help them take control of their cancer,” said Anne Meisner, president and CEO of CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. “Our team provides state of the art treatment protocols with fully integrated complementary therapies. We are committed to treating the whole-person and every patient is treated as though they were a member of our own family. We are so proud of our celebrants and honored to acknowledge and celebrate their journey and their continued success,” she added.
