New Horizons in Breast Cancer Treatment

Breast cancer treatment is always evolving. That is why it is important that you select a breast cancer treatment center that keeps up to date with these advances and provides you with innovative technologies and therapies. Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) is such a place. We never stop searching for and providing powerful and innovative breast cancer therapies dedicated to healing the whole person, improving quality of life and restoring hope.

New technologies like MammoSite®, a form of brachytherapy, dramatically reduce breast cancer treatment times, so you spend more time with loved ones. MammoSite® delivers internal radiation therapy to any remaining cancer cells in the lumpectomy cavity using a single catheter that releases a tiny radioactive pellet—all while minimizing exposure to the surrounding healthy tissue.

TomoTherapy®
technology enables your CTCA team to retreat previously treated areas that have a recurrence of cancer. This new form of therapy combines an advanced form of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) with CT scanning technology to deliver radiation with unprecedented accuracy to hard-to-reach areas. CTCA hospitals are among the few hospitals in the world to offer these innovative forms of breast cancer treatment.

Fractionated-dose chemotherapy is another option for breast cancer treatment that the physicians at CTCA have offered for several years to qualifying patients. With fractionated-dose chemotherapy, your full treatment is given in smaller amounts over a number of days rather than in a single, larger dose, as with standard chemotherapy. We believe that fractionated-dose chemotherapy can work against the cancerous cells for a longer period of time, making the breast cancer treatment process more tolerable, while reducing some of the unpleasant side effects of chemotherapy.

In certain circumstances, your physician may recommend neoadjuvant breast cancer chemotherapy before surgery to attempt to reduce the size of your tumor and allow for breast conserving therapy instead of a mastectomy.

In addition to chemotherapy, we use a variety of drugs to treat breast cancer. Your medical oncologist at CTCA might prescribe hormonal therapies, such as SERMs (selective estrogen receptor modulators) or aromatase inhibitors to prevent estrogen from reaching your tumor. This can help to slow the growth and reproduction of breast cancer cells.

If your breast cancer has spread to other parts of your body, a stem cell transplant may be the right breast cancer treatment for you. Your CTCA Stem Cell Transplant Team offers a number of advanced stem cell transplant therapies, including autologous (from yourself) and allogeneic (from a donor) transplant options.

At CTCA, we are committed to providing you with leading-edge, integrative breast cancer treatment options. The options discussed above are just some examples of treatments offered at CTCA. Not all treatments are offered at every treatment facility.

If you would like to learn more about CTCA, contact one of our helpful Oncology Information Specialists to discuss your treatment options. They can help you determine whether CTCA may be the right breast cancer treatment facility for you. Our Oncology Information Specialists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
