What is neurosurgery?
Our Neurosurgery Program includes a full range of options for neurological cancers, including primary and metastatic brain and spinal cancers, tumors near the spinal column or peripheral nerves, and neurologic problems resulting from other cancers or treatments. Some treatments we offer include: traditional surgical approaches (e.g., resection of the tumor), radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and/or immunotherapies.
In addition, patients face unique challenges associated with the direct effects of the tumor, treatments for the disease, and the resulting cognitive, emotional and physical side effects. The program provides integrated care to help you manage the challenges that arise during your treatment so you can fight the disease and maintain your quality of life.
Neurosurgery for metastatic breast cancer to the brain
Sometimes, breast cancer becomes advanced and metastasizes (spreads) to other areas of the body, such as the nervous system. Our Neurosurgery Program offers advanced treatments and procedures for metastatic brain and spinal cancers.
We also help you manage the unique challenges associated with neurological cancers, including mobility and communication difficulties. Our neurosurgery team will work closely with the other members of your care team to help alleviate pain and help you maintain your mobility so you can follow your treatment regime without complications. Your care team will also provide other essential components of care, including nutritional, physical and emotional support.
Our neurosurgery team
For patients with metastatic cancer to the brain, it’s important to be seen by an integrated team of physicians with expertise in performing cancer-related surgical procedures on the nervous system and its supporting structures.
At CTCA, our expert neurosurgeons work together with the rest of your care team to understand your individual needs and provide advanced, fully integrated treatments. Dr. Eric St. Clair serves as the Director of Neurosurgery at our Philadelphia hospital, Dr. Clinton Baird is the Director of Neurosurgery at our Tulsa hospital, and Dr. Juan Alzate is a neurosurgeon at our Chicago-area hospital.
