Mind-Body Medicine for Breast Cancer

Oftentimes, breast cancer patients struggle emotionally with the disease and its treatment. You may feel anxious, depressed, angry or fearful. Women in particular often struggle with hair loss, lack of intimacy and sexual identity issues. All of these stresses can impact your immune system, digestion, sleep, concentration and personal relationships.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) offers a Mind-Body Medicine Program to help you cope with the emotional and psychological stresses of breast cancer. Mind-body medicine explores the influence of your mind and emotions on your body and immune system, and vice versa.

Breast Cancer Counseling & Support Groups

During your first visit to CTCA, you will have the option to meet with a licensed mind-body therapist. Your therapist will provide an assessment and then work with you to integrate any of the following therapies into your breast cancer treatment plan:

  • Individual and relationship counseling sessions
  • Cancer support groups
  • Relaxation and guided imagery training
  • Stress management
  • Laughter therapy
  • Reiki therapy

Throughout your breast cancer treatment, your mind-body therapist works closely with your entire CTCA care team to support you in making ongoing care decisions. In addition, they can connect you with qualified practitioners, counselors and breast cancer support groups in your area once you return home.

Caregiver Support

Your CTCA breast cancer team also recognizes that breast cancer patients are likely concerned about the well-being of their loved ones. All the services of the mind-body team, including our cancer support groups and individual breast cancer counseling sessions, are also available to your caregivers and family members.
