CTCA HCAHPS Scores
Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) is committed to open and transparent communication about our hospitals. For that reason, we have added HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) scores for three of our hospitals to our website. HCAHPS, which is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is a national, standardized, publicly reported survey of patients’ perceptions of their hospital care.
CTCA hospitals and other U.S. hospitals administer HCAHPS surveys to a random sample of adult patients every month between 48 hours and six weeks after their discharge from the hospital. Each hospital’s results are then reported on the HHS Hospital Compare website (www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov) four times a year.
HCAHPS scores are an important indicator of the overall quality of a hospital and the overall satisfaction of the patients who were treated there. Because each hospital is required to use the same survey and the same data collection methods, HCAHPS provides an “apples to apples” comparison of one hospital to another.
CTCA is proud to report that, as of May 17, 2012, our HCAHPS results for patients’ “willingness to recommend” our hospitals and their overall impression of the quality of care they received are higher than the scores for those hospitals in the top 25 U.S. News and World Report “Top-Ranked Hospitals for Cancer” that report HCAHPS results.1, 2

Note: CTCA at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Atlanta is too new to have HCAHPS scores, while CTCA at Western Regional Medical Center near Phoenix currently does not participate in the Medicare Program, and as such, does not report HCAHPS results.
How CTCA HCAHPS Scores Compare to State and National Averages
The scores below indicate the percentage of responding patients at three CTCA medical centers who rated our hospitals a 9 or 10 on a scale of 0 (lowest) to 10 (highest), as compared to their state hospital average and the national hospital average.2
As you can see, the percentage of patients who rated CTCA hospitals a 9 or 10 was 18% - 22% higher than the national average, and 20 – 25% higher than their respective state hospital averages.
On “willingness to recommend,” CTCA hospitals also scored higher than the national hospital average by 21% - 26%, and higher than their respective state hospital averages by 23% - 27%. It’s clear that patients who completed the HCAHPS survey thought highly of our CTCA hospitals and would recommend them to people they know.
